Good evening Seven Pines Families and Staff,

I am reaching out to our families with important information on two significant topics of interest. One pertains to closing out grades for the 2019-20 school year. The other pertains to the availability of learning opportunities for students in the weeks to come.

Students will be receiving report cards for the third quarter. The school division’s period for grading and reporting student progress has ended, effective the date schools closed, March 13. All students in K-5 will be given grades in a different way than in the past. Students in K-1 will receive a S or an N. Student averages in subjects of a 2 or above, will receive a “S” (satisfactory) rating. Students having a 1 in a subject area will receive a “N, (Needs Improvement).  For students in grades 2-5, they will also receive S’s and N’s. Students having an average of a 60 or above will receive a “S,” those below a 60 will receive a “N.” This decision was made with great care and consideration from our Central Office staff. Under these extreme and unique circumstances, we believe this decision is in the best interest of all of our students, and reduces undue stress in student households. We anticipate report cards being available for students in early May.

While the grading period has ended, we will continue to provide a number of avenues for students to engage in learning opportunities in the coming months. These opportunities will be valuable in preparing students for the next grade level or for the next class in which they will be enrolled for the 2020-21 school year.
Beginning on April 14 (the Tuesday after Spring Break), the goal of the continued instructional plan is to ensure students have access to quality, engaging experiences for pre-K through grade 12. Teachers will continue to provide students with differentiated, flexible learning opportunities designed to best meet each student’s and family’s unique needs. Elementary learners will be challenged to hone the 6 C’s in the Henrico Learner Profile as part of #LifeReady Learning. Division of Learning specialists will support teachers by preparing various learning opportunities and modules to assist with learning experiences. Details about the many ways the division will continue to provide learning opportunities between now and when school begins in the fall, will be outlined in our pre-K-12 On-Demand Learning Plan which will be shared with families following our return from Spring Break.

As we travel through these chartered waters, please continue to reach out to teachers, encourage your students to participate in class meetings, keep reading with your children each day, and most importantly, enjoy this unexpected family time together! Thank you and have a great evening!
