Important Attendance Information 1. If your child has any COVID-like symptoms, please keep them at home. Email your child’s teacher or call the school office at 804-328-4065 to report your child’s absence. This is important as the absence will be reported as “excused.” Symptoms include: Fever, cough, runny nose, shortness of breath, chest pain/pressure, muscle aches, fatigue, loss of taste or smell, nausea/vomiting, diarrhea, headache, or sore throat. 1. IMPORTANT CHANGE PER HCPS: All students who are reported absent from school AND have a Covid-like symptom as listed above, will need to quarantine for 10 days. You will be contacted by a school nurse to further discuss your child’s illness. Your child will be able to attend school virtually if they are able to do so. This is why it is VERY important to report the absence as soon as possible. 1. If your child is sick and absent from school, please take them to the doctor to be checked out. A doctor’s note stating that it is safe for your child to return to school based upon the symptoms they are experiencing is all that is necessary to enable your child to return to school in-person. In many cases, your child could return the next day. 2. If your child comes to school and develops COVID-like symptoms, the classroom teacher alerts the school nurse and the child is taken to an isolation room where they will be assessed. At this point, your child may need to go home and the parent will be called. If sent home, then the same protocols apply. Your child will need to quarantine for 10 days or until a doctor’s note is obtained stating that the child can return to school. 3. If the doctor determines that it is safe for your child to return to school, you must bring your child to school by car. Your child may not ride the bus. Your child must bring the note to the school clinic to be reviewed by our school nurse, Mrs. Baber, before heading to the classroom. Once cleared, your child will be escorted to the classroom by an adult.
